Our new guest chef was born and raised in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Her home state is known for its gastronomic richness. Gabriela grew up perceiving the smells and flavors of traditional cuisine at her mother’s side. Later on, she formalised her gastronomical skills and raw talent at the Instituto Culinario de México in Puebla. Gabriela’s international aspirations landed her internships and scholarships at the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, the EFBA in Aurillac and the Lycée de Gascogne in Bordeaux. She worked with the group of Cocineras Tradicionales de Oaxaca and formed the Cooking Academy of Origen in the city of Oaxaca. Gabriela is trained in traditional Mexican and Oaxacan cuisine specifically.
In 2015 she moved to Geneva, Switzerland, with her husband Tareq Bouchuiguir and developed a project for authentic Mexican cuisine in this city. It began as Taco Toots a pop up restaurant in the heart of Geneva, in 2016 it developed into what is now the restaurant she founded, El Catrín, located in the neighborhood of Pâquis, with a casual and colorful vibe that makes you travel to Mexico.
